NEW: Peck Park

Located only a hop, skip and a jump away from San Pedro's infamous Channel street skatepark, Peck park is soon to be of the same status. This park has a Lance Mountain designed pool, that comes well equipped with stairs, a deathbox, a cemented in pool light and wall stairs. Being a full transition park, it starts at the top of a slope and gradually goes down hill with quarterpipes ranging from heights of 4ft to 8ft at the deepest parts. Pool coping is integrated through out the whole park, along with regular coping and a strange gravel type coping on that tall vert wall (pictured).] Overall this park is a tranny skaters dream and will be opening up later on this year, can't wait!!!

NEW: Encinitas Skate Plaza: Gateway Plaza

Alright, so I wasn't sure if I had access to this but i was in the area and i just charged it. This is the new Encinitas skate plaza, you know the one you all have recently seen under construction on the side of the 5 freeway heading southbound. Let me just say that this is a street skaters wet dream, right off the bat, it has a perfect (kind of long) 6 stair with a rather small rail and perfect hubbas. As you venture further into the park you are greeted by bank to ledges, manual pads, a pier 7 style manual pad, perfect flatbar, endless ledges and a flawless hip. Oh, and there is a massive bowl in the lower section that is totally separate from the rest of the park. the bowl has pool coping, shallow, middle and deep section and ledges running along side of it for spectator viewing. This park was built and is being built with ASD (action sport development) and RJM designs to create the first "Wheel Friendly" park that is ADA accessible by people with disabilities and also has pedestrian pathways integrated. Seeing this park first hand was insane, everything a street skater could ask for! should be done by this year, though there is no place to find an actual due date for grand opening.

Carlsbad: Alga Norte Skatepark

Since it's opening in January, Alga Norte skatepark in Carlsbad, California has become a skaters favorite right off the bat! With two bowls, one with regular coping and a love seat and the other with stairs, a death box and pool coping, while also providing a perfect street course. The street section has an eight stair with a rail and hubba's and three stairs with hubba's and a pier seven style manual pad. There is a very long flatbar, a great a-frame ledge as well as a step up and qaurterpipe hip that leads you right into the Alamo type quarterpipe. Overall its a great skatepark and we here at Socal Skateparks highly recommend it!

Huntington Beach Vans Skatepark Nears Completion

The new Huntington Beach Vans/Jacks Garage Skatepark is almost done.  There is some flat to be poured and some rails and ledges are yet to be completed.  The park is located off Gothard St. and Center Ave in Huntington Beach.  Below are some photos of the progress, anything covered in white tarps is new cement.

Vans OTW Huntington Beach Construction Photos

After many delays the new Vans Huntington beach park has made some progress.  The bowls have been dug out, and re-bar work will start next week.  In roughly 2 weeks, cement will start arriving, and the park will begin to take shape.  The clover pool is looking good, but I did not see the other D shaped pool that was in the design shown below, I am not sure that they are still putting that pool in.  Instead it looks like the other smaller bowl shown is a combination of some different features from the original design. The clover bowl looks to be 10-11 feet deep, and the two shallow ends are different depths, maybe 8 and 6 feet, with a roll-in(Pictured below).  The street course was only cinder blocks right now, and will be ledges and rails once all the other shapes have been poured.  We will post more photos once they start pouring concrete.  Enjoy.

Vans Van Doren Invitational Shop Battle

On Tuesday July 23rd, Socal Skate Shop took part in the first annual Vans US Open Shop battle.  The battle went down in Huntington Beach, CA where a cement bowl was temporarily built on the beach.  This bowl was a replica of the park in Marseille, France.  There were 10 different shops competing for top honor.  Each shop was allowed 3 riders, and one 6 minute jam to show off their skills.  We had Tristan Rennie, CJ Collins, and Andrew Miller representing Socal Skate Shop.  They skated some of the best runs of the day, and blew away the judges.  Socal was an instant crowd favorite.  Once all the teams were done with their heats, the final decision was Socal Skate Shop in 3rd Place.  Congrats to all three of the riders for skating through the heat, and pressure that was put on them.  Below is the gallery, and the Video is coming soon.  All photos taken by Shawn Rossmiller.
